Practicing breathing exercise for weight loss? Yeah, you heard it right, we are talking about breathing exercises which can help you to lose weight and can boost your entire weight loss process.
There are several studies claiming that breathing exercise may help to promote weight loss and burn fat. A study has shown that people who are suffering from obesity practiced breathing exercise for 1 month regularly and experienced significant weight reduction.
An 8 week study showed that practicing breathing exercises for 45 minutes daily reduces body mass index.
First you have to know how it works, when we perform breathing exercises the extra oxygen in our body helps in burning fat. The fat cells shrink and the carbon dioxide trapped in the cell exhales out of the body. Doing only breathing exercise can’t help you to lose weight, it must be paired with the right diet and other physical activity.
There are 4 type of breathing exercises which can help you to lose weight:
Pursed Lips Breathing
In this process you need to sit with your back straight and inhale through your nose for 5 seconds. Fill your abdomen with air, purse your lips and breathe out slowly for 5 seconds. Repeat this process 5 to 10 times.
Belly Breathing
Lie down on the floor and put a pillow beneath your head and knees. Then put your one arm on your belly button and another one on your chest. Then inhale through your nose and exhale through your mouth and engage your stomach muscles to push the air out of the belly. Do it 5 to 10 times.
Skull Shining Breathing
Sit with your back straight, inhale and exhale quickly through your nose keeping your navel and abdomen relaxed.
Alternate Nostril Breathing
Sit down on the floor with your back straight, close the right nostril with your right hand’s thumb finger and take a deep breath with the left nostril and close it and after that open your right nostril and breathe out. Do this process alternatively.
Some research says that breathing exercises may reduce feelings of hunger which may reduce food intake and cause you to lose weight and reduce leptin, the hormone that regulates feeling of fullness.
